Relaxing on the beach is fun for a day or two, but no holiday is truly complete without trying your hand at an adrenaline pumping activity. In fact, action-packed city breaks have become the most popular type of holiday for Brits, with almost 50% of tourists choosing a city break over a longer and more relaxing getaway. If you’re hoping to fit as many activities as possible into your holiday, then this guide is perfect for you; here are four heart-pumping activities that you should try on your next break:
1. Snorkelling
Take a dip in the ocean and observe the underwater world like never before. Snorkelling is a popular excursion in many different countries and you’ll be surprised to see just how varied marine life can be in each destination. Snorkelling is perfect for all of the family, as your kids will get to witness marine life first hand; hopefully, it will spark their curiosity and encourage them to learn more about different species of fish and underwater plant culture.
Snorkelling is especially amazing in Hawaii as the surrounding ocean is home to exotic animals, such as the spinner dolphin and manta ray. However, snorkelling can be a dangerous endeavour and you could risk injuring yourself on rocks or being stung by a jellyfish; American hospital bills can be eye-wateringly high (can easily go over US$30,000 for a one week hospital stay) if you don’t have the appropriate travel insurance.
2. Snowboarding
If you can handle a colder climate, a snow sports holiday could be perfect for you. However, why not try something a little different on your next snow sports holiday and try your hand at snowboarding instead of skiing? You might find it easier to control the board and if you’re a pro at surfing, you’re likely to be just as amazing at snowboarding. However, research shows that more than 2.5 million British people embark on winter sports holidays without checking if they have the correct insurance; this can be a costly mistake, so double check before you travel.
3. Hiking
No matter where you go, there will always be a beautiful natural landscape or park to hike through; pack your hiking boots as well as your flip flops and you’ll always have the option to spend a day of your holiday hiking. Going for a hike can be a truly fulfilling experience and you can uncover hidden waterfalls and villages that you wouldn’t have found on a map; it’s also great exercise and a chance to burn off those unhealthy cocktails and cheesy dishes.
4. Kayaking
If you want to explore a large stretch of your holiday destination but don’t fancy driving, then hire out a kayak and hit the water. You could spend hours journeying along rivers and bodies of water, because kayaking is just so much fun. If the activity is new to you, you might spend the first hour falling in and trying to regain you balance but it doesn’t take long to get to grips with the kayak. Before long, you’ll be taking in the scenic river-side landscape, able to fully appreciate the foreign world around you.

We snorkeled and kayaked in Hawaii, and it was amazing! We did ziplining and hiking too! The only one I’m not going to try is snowboarding at 57 I don’t feel confident enough to go down the slopes on a snowboard. LOL

Hiking is always a good time! Kayaking is our favorite activity π
I’m with you on Snorkeling. I can’t believe I haven’t done that yet. Hiking, we love to do. Kayaking – I did some rafting earlier this summer and loved it. Snowboarding – that can wait until winter, but want to try that too.
Kayaking is probably my favorite. We take our kayaks out all the time!
I’m sad to say I’ve never tried any of these things. Maybe on our next trip!

I love snorkeling, it’s so cool to be able to see the ocean floor but it can be nerve-racking that first time.
