One thing that we KNEW we wanted to splurge on during this road trip was some good food. While we were in Missouri that good food of course was barbecue!
I hopped on Pinterest, Yelp, and Google to find places that were recommended and had good reviews. We ended up going to Char Bar which is a little barbecue joint south of downtown Kansas City.
The Atmosphere
When we first sat down I was impressed with the outside area. I told Tyrell it was a place I could picture our friends going on Saturdays for food & drinks! They even had large yard games and actives to keep you entertained for hours.
The area itself just gave off a very cool and young vibe which we thrive off of. The tables were like picnic table style and it there was a bar area outside as well. I seriously could have just hung out all day having a few drinks and playing games.
The Food
While of course a good atmosphere sucks me in, the food is why I stay. Tyrell and I ordered one meal each but decided to share. He got the Burnt Heaven sandwich with a side of potato salad. I got the Holy Trinity platter with a side of Mac n cheese. We also got a side of fries to share.
First of all, this was a TON of food and we ate almost all of it. That should tell you how good it was! The Mac n Cheese was literally to die for. Like I could live off of that stuff. And the sandwhich was the perfect spicy kick that we love!
But let’s get to the important part of any barbecue restaurant. The Sauce. We have been to some barbecue places that have like 17 different flavor of sauces and we just keep trying them all until we find one we like to finish our meal. Char Bar only offered two sauces, a hot and a sweet. Well folks, that is all you needed!
When I tell you that these two barbecue sauces were PERFECTION!!! Oh my goodness I still dream about these sauces. Honestly, the meat by itself was fine… but it was mostly just a vessel to scoop this sauce into my mouth with. Am I admitting too much to the internet about my love for bbq sauce? Probably. Do I care? Not at all.
Was it worth it?
YES! You guys, seriously just walk in the front door and ask to buy all of the barbecue sauce they will sell you. And if you are in the mood to enjoy some fun games and great atmosphere then sit down and grab a bite to eat while you are there.
I will 100% be back to this place every time we are in KC from now on. If you are in the area and haven’t eaten here yet, what are you doing with your life?

What an excellent combination of cha Bar restaurant’s foods and also their mouthwatering BBQ sauce. Yum! I don’t want to miss this opportunity, and I must visit this Cha Bar restaurant next time with my friends. Thanks for recommending me to visit this fantastic restaurant!

Char Bar is legit! Another great BBQ place to check out is Q39 – the original location isn’t too far from Char Bar! It’s not as much of a fun atmosphere, but the BBQ is insanely good. And the Local Pig in the Rivermarket has some delicioussss sandwiches! But there’s so many places to try!
This place looks great! I love BBQ and especially when there are lots of different sauces to try!
So many options! What a yummy-looking spot. And I love when restaurants have great outdoor spaces, too!
