Formulate Custom Hair Care: A Review

As someone who has always lost handfuls of hair when stressed, I knew it was time for a new hair care routine. When I first heard of customized hair products I was interested. Then I found Formulate. I decided to finally give this custom hair care line try!

How it works

In order to create you shampoo and conditioner you will start by filling out a few questions. They ask about your current hair type and your hair goals. Then they use that information in order to formulate a shampoo and conditioner that will get you to your goals!

After you tell them your goals it will take about a week for them to create the formula and send it to you. It will arrive with all of the information detailing your formula! It lists out your current hair type and the goals you wish to accomplish. It also gives you instructions to get the best results.

Using the Product

Before using Formulate warns you that the first few washes will be rough on your hair. Especially if you have been using any products with sulfate. This is because Formulate products will strip your hair of unnatural chemicals, oils, and anything else that shouldn’t be there! This causes your hair to feel extremely oily for the first week or so. After that it will start to feel normal and then it will begin to feel healthy!

One thing I did notice when using the product was that I didn’t use the full recommended amount. This is typical for most shampoos and conditioners I use so I wasn’t too surprised. My instructions recommended using 4 pumps of each but I only use there of the shampoo and two of conditioner. If I use all 4 it makes my hair feel heavy as if there is too much product. If you have the same issue just try cutting back on pumps!

What if it doesn’t work?

The great thing about Formulate is that they work with you until you achieve your goals! My first batch of product made my hair very flat. So I sent them an email and they updated my formula! Within in a couple of weeks I had an updated formula that now makes my hair full and strong! I was very impressed with their willingness to help solve the issue. And they will continue working with you until the product is just right for your hair!

Would I recommend?

Yes! Absolutely! For anyone struggling with brittle, oily, flat, or any type of hair this product is for you! They take the time to make sure that you are satisfied and it makes you wonder why you ever bought generic products made for masses. Everyone’s hair s unique so why not use unique hair care products as well!

Jordyn’s Review

Many of you probably don’t know this, but my day job is a hairstylist! So obviously I already use professional products and know quite a bit about hair care. When we were first partnering with Formulate I immediately loved their BUSINESS. I mean how cool is it to get a shampoo and conditioner perfectly designed for you? I was so excited to dive in and try my new product.

First impression was the packaging was so nice and I loved seeing my name on the insert! I also got an email saying when I would probably need refills based on the usage I noted in my questionnaire. Takes the guesswork out of knowing when to reorder. As a new mom I love products that make life easy!

First try with Formulate

They warn you about this but your hair will go through a detox. I had to wash my hair everyday for four days before it felt somewhat normal. After awhile it evened out and my hair felt great to straighten, curl, or wear naturally curly. However, I did have to mess with the amount of pumps they told me to use. They told me to use four pumps of each, but I found out 4 pumps of shampoo and 2 pumps of conditioner worked best for me.

I can’t go as long in between washes as I could with my old product

Would I order again? Of course! The convenience and quality of the product is top notch. There is no other hair care line like it.
