OMSI – Oregon Museum of Science and Industry

OMSI – Oregon Museum of Science and Industry

Hands down the best science museum I have ever been to! Even if you don’t have kids, Check this place out! Located on the waterfront in downtown Portland, Oregon is OMSI – Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Tickets are available on Groupon that include the main museum and a planetarium or movie! I LOVE Groupon and also have bought Escape Room tickets on there! Read about it here.

OMSI is filled to the ceiling with fun, unique and fascinating exhibits! Not to mention an 18 ft. Theater screen playing your favorite Hollywood films, and science and nature films. If you have kids, I recommend really reading the details of the shows because some of the titles are a little deceiving! For example we went to go see “Dinosaurs Alive,” which was actually about finding dinosaur bones. Needless to say my toddler who LOVES dinosaurs was bored and fell asleep. However, the second time we went he enjoyed watching “Wild Africa.” Just like any other theater they have popcorn and a few other snacks, but you can bring your own as well! They also have a planetarium

They have a rotating exhibit. When we went both times it was Robots. To see what it currently is click here. For the exhibits that take up residence at OMSI there is:

USS Blueback Submarine

Explore a real Navy submarine for a small extra fee. This is the same submarine featured in “The Hunt for Red October.”

(I have yet to explore this, If you have I would love tp hear about it.) Let me know in the comments below!

Science Playground

Perfect to run out the energy of the little ones. There are fun experiments, an art lab, dress up, grocery math section, and a sand pit. There is a soft play area for the crawlers as well!

Labs

Fun experiments that rotate. These were fun for adults but a little bit above my 3 year olds attention span. OMSI has 6 different Labs on site.

Life Hall, Earth Hall, and Turbine Hall

Halls contain some of the labs, fun hands on experiments for all ages and interesting exhibits. In the Life Hall, there was a in depth exhibit of fetal development all the way from conception to birth!

OMSI is the perfect indoor escape from Oregon’s rainy season for the day. click here to buy your tickets or check our Groupon!
