Winter Time Kids Activities at Home

Winter Time Kids Activities at Home

Every parent struggles with how to entertain their children during the cold winter months. Summer brings endless of outdoor activities that are perfect for rambunctious toddlers and young kids. But what to do in the winter? Here are a couple of my three year olds tried and true Winter time activities. Let me know your kiddos favorite activities in the comment below!

Cooking or Baking

I Love cooking and want to pass that on to my son. Also he is much more inclined to eat something he personally made, a big win for parents dealing with picky eaters! We like to use simple recipes to make breakfast together, cookies, muffins or sometimes dinner!

Work Books

My son gets the biggest smile on his face when he accomplishes something that “big boys do” like writing his name. For Christmas this year he received a couple of pre- k workbooks to learn to write letters and numbers. Also one of my favorites for the car and on the go the Melissa and Doug Learn to Write, Write and Wipe.

Crafts

Get those creative juices flowing in your young kids! Some crafts we have done this winter is: melted crayon art, painting, and how to draw videos on youtube. I am not a very good artist when it comes to drawing, but those videos really help! Even my three year old’s drawing were recognizable! The crayon art was such a cool activity for my son to do. He was amazed to watch the crayons melt! He helped me to make a gift out of the crayon art for his uncle. And of course you can never go wrong with washable paint! Finger paint or paint in giant coloring pages. It was a huge hit with my boy!

Board Games and Puzzles

Simple games that involve small number or colors are a good way to introduce board games to children. Candyland is my boy’s favorite! Aggravation was also an easy one for him to catch on to. Puzzles are also a wonderful option. My three year old can do up to a 50 piece puzzle on his own in minutes! I love the way he lights up with pride when he finishes a solo puzzle.

Lego Kits

These are a little tricky for the kids but they love the outcome. Lego Duplo has bigger Legos that are easier for the young ones. I for one enjoy the brain challenge of piecing these creations together! We have gotten my son a Ninjago kit, Lightening McQueen kit, Avengers kit, and and the Incredibles. He enjoys all of his Lego kits!

  1. Love these ideas! We love doing crafts when we’re stuck inside during the winter. But Lego sets another great way to pass the time when we’re snowed in!

  2. i love the handwriting activities. i love to take time with my kids to make sure theyre involved in educational activities

  3. You just reminded me that i need to get some more workbooks for my daughter! I love baking and cooking with my kids (sometimes). I don’t like it when they want to help and i’m trying to do a million things since I’m late to getting dinner started, but i love it when it’s a planned activity and we’re prepping or making something earlier in the day. My attitude shifts completely depending on the two!
